Performing Site Selection and Topography Analysis

Last updated June 12, 2024

Introduction: Selecting the right site and conducting a thorough topography analysis are critical steps in developing a successful PV project. This guide will walk you through the process using RatedPower’s tools.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Identify Potential Sites:
  • Log in to your RatedPower account.
  • Navigate to the "Projects" tab and select "New Project."
  • Use the map tool to identify potential sites for your PV plant. Consider factors such as land availability, proximity to grid connections, and local climate conditions.
  1. Input Site Coordinates:
  • Once a potential site is identified, input the site coordinates into the platform.
  • Define the site boundaries by drawing polygons on the map tool to outline the project area.
  1. Upload Topographical Data:
  • Go to the "Design" section and select "Topography."
  • Upload topographical data files (e.g., DEM or contour maps) to the platform.
  • Use the topography analysis tool to evaluate the terrain, identifying any slopes or elevation changes that could impact the design.
  1. Conduct Cut-and-Fill Analysis:
  • Use the built-in tools to perform a cut-and-fill analysis.
  • Adjust the site layout to minimize earthmoving costs and optimize land use.
  • Save the analysis results and incorporate them into your project design.
