Last updated July 27, 2024
Need to share your phone's internet connection with other devices? TELUS's mobile hotspot feature lets you create a Wi-Fi network using your phone's data, allowing you to connect laptops, tablets, and other devices. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your mobile hotspot.
Steps to Set Up Your Mobile Hotspot
- 1. Open Settings: Access the settings menu on your TELUS phone.
- 2. Find Hotspot Settings: Depending on your phone model, locate the "Hotspot" or "Portable Hotspot" option within the settings menu. This may be under "Network & Internet," "Connections," or "Wireless & Networks."
- 3. Enable Hotspot: Toggle the "Mobile Hotspot" or "Portable Hotspot" setting to enable it.
- 4. Set Password: You'll be prompted to set a password for your mobile hotspot. This password will be necessary to connect other devices. Choose a strong password for security.
- 5. Connect Other Devices:
- On the device you want to connect, go to Wi-Fi settings.
- Locate the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
- Select your phone's hotspot name, usually starting with "TELUS" or simply your phone model name.
- Enter the password when prompted.
- 6. Verify Connection: Test the connection by browsing the internet or using online apps on the device you connected.
Important Considerations
- Data Usage: Using mobile hotspot consumes data from your cellular plan. Be mindful of your data usage to avoid overage charges, especially for data-intensive activities like streaming or downloading.
- Mobile Data Connection: Ensure your phone has a strong cellular signal to maintain a stable and reliable hotspot connection.
- Battery Drain: Mobile hotspot can drain your phone's battery faster than usual.
- Security: Use a strong password to protect your mobile hotspot, similar to how you would secure your home Wi-Fi network.
