Exploring Pour-Over Methods

Pour-over coffee is a brewing method that allows for precise control over the brewing process, resulting in a flavorful cup of coffee. At Wakuli, we believe that every cup of coffee should be an experience, and the pour-over method is perfect for showcasing the unique characteristics of our specialty coffees. In this article, we'll guide you through the essential steps to master the art of pour-over brewing.

What You Will Need

Before you start brewing, gather the following equipment and ingredients:

  • Freshly roasted Wakuli coffee beans
  • Coffee grinder
  • Pour-over coffee maker (e.g., V60, Chemex, or Melitta)
  • Coffee filter
  • Kettle (preferably a gooseneck kettle for precision)
  • Scale (to measure coffee and water)
  • Hot water (about 200°F or 93°C)

Step-by-Step Guide to Pour-Over Brewing

Follow these steps to create the perfect pour-over coffee with your Wakuli beans:

  • 1. **Measure and Grind Your Coffee**: Start by measuring out approximately 20 grams of coffee for a 300 ml cup. Grind the coffee beans to a medium to medium-fine consistency, similar to table salt.
  • 2. **Prepare the Equipment**: Place the coffee filter in your pour-over brewer and rinse it with hot water to eliminate any paper taste. Discard the rinse water and set the brewer on your mug or carafe.
  • 3. **Add Coffee Grounds**: Add the ground coffee to the filter and level it off gently to create an even bed.
  • 4. **Bloom the Coffee**: Slowly pour about 40 ml of hot water over the grounds to allow them to bloom. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds to release carbon dioxide.
  • 5. **Continue Brewing**: Gradually pour the remaining water in a circular motion, ensuring all the grounds are saturated. Aim for a total brew time of 2.5 to 4 minutes for the coffee to drip through.
  • 6. **Serve and Enjoy**: Once the dripping has stopped, remove the brewer from the mug and dispose of the filter and grounds. Give your coffee a gentle swirl before serving to mix the flavors.

With these steps, you're now equipped to brew coffee like a pro with the pour-over method. Experiment with different coffee origins from Wakuli to discover how flavor notes change based on the beans you use. Happy brewing!
