 Play starts with a lead card (the first card played in a trick). Each player must follow suit if possible. If not, they can play any card. The highest card of the leading suit wins the trick.

  Partners combine their scores. Points are earned by winning tricks based on your bid.  Successfully taking all tricks in a round results in a "nil" score. But be careful, losing tricks when you bid too high can cost you points!

What is Spades?

1. **Partnerships:** Players form partnerships of two. 

2. **Dealing:** The dealer shuffles the deck and deals 13 cards to each player.

3. **Bidding:**  Before play begins, each player bids on how many tricks they think they will win in the round.  

4. **Leading a Card:** Once bidding is complete, the player who bid the highest number of tricks leads the first card of the trick (a "lead card"). This card can be any card in the player's hand.

5. **Following Suit:** Each player must follow suit if possible, i.e., play a card of the same suit as the lead card.  If you can't follow suit, you can play any card.

6. **Winning the Trick:** The highest-ranking card of the suit played in the trick wins the trick.  The winner of the trick leads the next card.

7. **Scoring:** Points are tallied at the end of each round based on:

 Collaborate with your partner.  Talk through strategies and be aware of what cards they have.

  Aces are high-ranking cards, which can help you win tricks. Try to hold onto them for as long as possible.

  Always remember the suit of the lead card to follow suit correctly.

  Consider potential moves your opponents might make to predict the winning card.
