Building Your First Product in Akeneo

Last updated July 23, 2024

This guide provides a straightforward walk-through for creating your first product in Akeneo, setting the stage for a robust and well-organized product catalog.

Creating Your Product:

  • Navigate to the Product Section: In the Akeneo interface, click "Products" to access the product creation area.
  • Start a New Product: Click the "Create Product" button. You'll be presented with a form to define your new product.
  • Choose a Product Family: Select the family that aligns with your product type. Families define the common attributes for products within that group.
  • Enter Essential Details:
  • Product Identifier: Assign a unique identifier that distinguishes this product.
  • Product Name: Provide a descriptive name for your product.
  • Description: Offer a comprehensive overview of the product's features and functionalities.
  • Add Attributes: Based on the chosen family, Akeneo will automatically display relevant attributes. Enter values for these attributes to describe your product. If needed, you can add additional attributes from the available list or create new custom attributes.
  • Define Values for Attributes:
  • Simple Values: Enter text, numbers, or select from pre-defined options for single-value attributes.
  • Multi-value Attributes: If an attribute allows multiple values, use the provided interface to add as many values as necessary.
  • Rich Text Editor: For descriptions or other attributes that require rich text formatting, use the WYSIWYG editor.
  • Images and Media: Upload images and any other media assets that will represent your product.
  • Save and Preview: Save the product details to keep track of the progress. You can preview the product at any time to check its appearance and ensure all the necessary information is included.
  • Manage Variants (If Applicable): If your product has variants (e.g., different colors, sizes), you can create and configure them in Akeneo.
  • Publication: Once you're satisfied with the product details, you can publish it to make it available for your chosen channels.
