Resetting Your Password and Security

Last updated August 7, 2024

Maintaining a secure CGFNS account is crucial to protect your personal information and ensure smooth access to the services you need. If you forget your password or have concerns about account security, follow these steps to reset your password and enhance your account protection.

Resetting Your Password

  • Access the Password Reset Feature: Go to the CGFNS website (http://www.cgfns.org) and locate the "Forgot Password" or "Reset Password" link, typically found on the login page or customer support section.
  • Enter Your Email Address: Enter the email address associated with your CGFNS account.
  • Receive a Reset Link: CGFNS will send you a password reset link to your registered email address.
  • Click on the Reset Link: Open the email and click on the provided link. This will redirect you to a password reset page.
  • Create a New Password: Enter a new, strong password that meets the specified criteria. Make sure your new password is at least 8 characters long, includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Confirm Your New Password: Re-enter your new password to confirm it.
  • Save Changes: Click on the "Save Changes" or "Reset Password" button to complete the process. You can now log in using your new password.

Enhancing Account Security

  • Regularly Change Your Password: For best security practices, change your password every 90 days or more frequently.
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): If available, activate two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security. This requires an additional code, often sent to your mobile phone, in addition to your password when signing in.
  • Use Strong Passwords: Choose complex passwords that are difficult to guess. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays or names.
  • Avoid Sharing Your Password: Never share your password with anyone.
  • Log Out When Finished: Always log out of your account when you finish using it on a public computer.
  • Be Wary of Phishing Emails: Be vigilant about phishing emails that may try to trick you into disclosing your password or personal information.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect any unauthorized access to your account, contact CGFNS Customer Support immediately.
  • Additional Security Measures:
  • Keep Your Anti-Virus Software Up-To-Date: Ensure your computer is protected with current antivirus software to safeguard against malware and viruses.
  • Be Cautious with Public Wi-Fi: Avoid accessing sensitive information like your CGFNS account on public Wi-Fi networks.
