Collaborating on Content with Versions and History
Last updated August 30, 2024
Slab's versioning and history features make collaborative content creation seamless and transparent. This article explains how to track changes, view historical edits, and revert to previous versions of your notes, wikis, or documentation.
Tracking Changes and Managing Versions
1. **View Current Version:** When viewing a note, wiki, or documentation, you'll see the current version number at the top of the page.
2. **Make Edits:** When you make changes to the content, Slab automatically creates a new version. The version number increases with each edit.
3. **View Revision History:** To review the history of changes, click the "Versions" tab at the top of the page. This displays a timeline of all edits, including the date, time, and who made the changes.
4. **Revert to Previous Versions:** If you need to revert to a previous version, click on the version number you want to restore. Slab will prompt you to confirm the action.
Understanding Version History
- Author: Each version entry shows the username of the person who made the changes.
- Date and Time: The date and time of each edit are displayed so you can track when changes were made.
- Changes: Version history provides a clear record of what edits were made. This includes added content, removed content, and changes to formatting.
Tips for Effective Collaboration
- Use Comments for Discussion: Leverage the commenting feature to discuss changes and ask questions directly within the content. This keeps all feedback and discussions organized.
- @mention Team Members: Use the "@" symbol to mention specific team members in your comments to ensure they are notified and can contribute.
- Review Versions Regularly: Make a habit of reviewing the version history regularly to see who has made changes and stay informed about the evolution of the content.
- Keep Versions Organized: As your content evolves, you might choose to merge versions or create new branches to maintain clarity.
