Notes are a fundamental building block in Slab, offering a flexible way to capture ideas, meeting notes, quick thoughts, and more. This article guides you through creating notes and using basic formatting to make them clear and engaging.

1. **Navigate to "Notes":** From your workspace dashboard, click on the "Notes" tab to access the note creation area.

2. **Create a New Note:** Click "+ New Note" to create a blank note. 

3. **Give Your Note a Title:**  Enter a descriptive title for your note, reflecting its content. This helps keep your information organized and searchable.

4. **Start Writing:**  Begin adding your content. You can use the editor's formatting options to enhance your notes.

 Use headings to break up your content into sections and create hierarchy.  You can create different heading levels by using # followed by the desired level. For example, "# Heading 1", "## Heading 2", and "### Heading 3". 

  Use bullet points to create lists and organize information. Click on the bullet point icon in the editor toolbar to add a bullet point. You can create numbered lists by selecting "Numbered List" from the same toolbar. 

  Apply bold, italic, or strikethrough styles to highlight text, emphasize important information, or indicate something is no longer relevant. 

 You can add links to other websites or notes within your workspace.  Click the link icon in the editor toolbar and paste the URL you want to link to.

  Attach files, images, or other documents to your notes for easy access. Click the attachment icon in the editor toolbar, select the file from your computer, and upload it to your note.

  Use @ mentions to directly notify team members about specific notes or content. Type "@" and then start typing the name of the team member. Selecting their name will automatically add the @mention.

 Use the "Preview" button to see how your note will appear when shared or published. This helps you ensure proper formatting and visual appeal.

 Remember to save your note regularly using the "Save" button or by clicking on the "Edit Note" tab at any point. Slab saves your progress automatically, but it's always a good practice to save your work frequently.

Creating and Formatting Notes

Slab's versioning and history features make collaborative content creation seamless and transparent. This article explains how to track changes, view historical edits, and revert to previous versions of your notes, wikis, or documentation.

1. **View Current Version:**  When viewing a note, wiki, or documentation, you'll see the current version number at the top of the page. 

2. **Make Edits:** When you make changes to the content, Slab automatically creates a new version. The version number increases with each edit.

3. **View Revision History:**  To review the history of changes, click the "Versions" tab at the top of the page.  This displays a timeline of all edits, including the date, time, and who made the changes.

4. **Revert to Previous Versions:** If you need to revert to a previous version, click on the version number you want to restore. Slab will prompt you to confirm the action.

  Each version entry shows the username of the person who made the changes.

  The date and time of each edit are displayed so you can track when changes were made.

  Version history provides a clear record of what edits were made. This includes added content, removed content, and changes to formatting.

  Leverage the commenting feature to discuss changes and ask questions directly within the content. This keeps all feedback and discussions organized. 

 Use the "@" symbol to mention specific team members in your comments to ensure they are notified and can contribute. 

  Make a habit of reviewing the version history regularly to see who has made changes and stay informed about the evolution of the content.  

 As your content evolves, you might choose to merge versions or create new branches to maintain clarity.

Collaborating on Content with Versions and History

As your Slab workspace grows, keeping your content organized becomes crucial. This guide will walk you through using Folders and Tags to structure your knowledge base effectively.

1. **Create Folders:** Navigate to the "Notes" tab and click "+ New Folder" to create a new folder. 

2. **Name Your Folder:** Give your folder a descriptive name that clearly indicates its purpose or the type of content it will house. For example, "Project Documents," "Marketing Materials,"  or "Engineering Documentation."

3. **Move Content to Folders:** You can move notes, wikis, or documents from your workspace to a specific folder. Click on the three dots next to the content you wish to move, select "Move," and choose the appropriate folder.

4. **Create Subfolders:** Within a folder, you can create subfolders to further organize content. This helps to create a hierarchy of information, making it easier to find what you need.  

1. **Add Tags:** Open the note, wiki, or documentation you want to tag, and click on the "Tags" section at the bottom of the editor.

2. **Create or Select Existing Tags:** Start typing to create a new tag or select from a list of existing tags. Choose tags that are relevant to the content and will help you easily find it later.

3. **Multiple Tags:** You can add multiple tags to a single piece of content to categorize it in different ways. For example, you might add both "Marketing" and "Campaign" tags to a note about a specific marketing campaign.

1. **Filter by Folder:** From the "Notes" tab, click on the "Folders" menu and select the folder you want to view. This will display all the content within that folder.

2. **Filter by Tags:** Use the "Tags" menu at the top of the "Notes" tab to search for all content tagged with a specific keyword. 

3. **Combined Filtering:** You can combine filters from both folders and tags to narrow down your search. This helps you target specific pieces of information quickly.

 Consider how you and your team work together and choose folders and tags that align with your workflow and processes.

 Use the same tags and folders consistently across your workspace to make your information easy to find and manage effectively. 

 Choose clear and descriptive names for your folders and tags so that everyone can understand their purpose.

 Periodically review your folders and tags to ensure they are still relevant and organized.  You can update or merge folders and tags as needed.
